Old Mother Shipton.

Old Mother Shipton is a Yorkshire witch that lived some 500 years ago, who prophesied through poems!
She was born an illegitimate child to a young girl, who gave birth in a cave during a storm and named her Ursula!!

Last week we wanted to go on a daytrip, we considered staying local (to me) and going to Jodrell Bank, or going a way out to the Pencil museum in Cumbria. But in the end we settled on North Yorkshire, to Knaresborough to visit Old Mother Shipton's cave!

We had a great day and it only started to rain the moment we got into the car to leave WOO!!

The cave itself is pretty small but next to it is the petrifying well which turns things to stone, which is either science or magic, whichever you choose to believe. You can go round the back of the well and put your hands in the water and make a wish!

There's also a 'museum' that features petrified objects (some from minor mid 90s celebrities) and bits of tat to buy, and it smells proper fusty!

After all that excitement we hit the charity shops and had chippy tea!

Art is smart

So we've been a little quiet here recently. We've been busy, looking at and making art!

I (Seleena) had my birthday then  straight after that our awesome friend Nickie (AKA Pam Van-damned) had her debut photography exhibition.

It was sooooo good to finally see her beautiful pictures printed, framed and mounted!! She also had some life size cardboard cut outs of herself and some cool merch. Such a good night!

The following week, in the same space (2022NQ) was Krys Fox' photography exhibition. Krys is from NYC and I met him through Nickie. A great selection of portraits, fake DVD covers with his Halloween series and a corner of fake foliage and a stuffed lamb!

Then a week after that, Yiiikes! the awesome collective Kandy and I formed with Alison debuted our first work together (but that deserves it's own post).
Our friend Holly wrote about it HERE.

Which brings us to today, where I did that thing I always do, which is see an exhibition just before it ends!
I went to Manchester art gallery to see the Raqib Shaw exhibition.

This was so good, so many beautiful colours and so much detail and MORE FAKE FOLIAGE!!!!

I had never seen work that incorporated enamel and illustration AND rhinestones  (although I must admit I did for a moment wonder if the rhinestones were Swarovski, that's what almost 4 years of working in a bead shop does to you!)

And don't even get me started on the sculpture.

On a whole, a complete fantasy land, the colours/detail/technique blew my mind, and even though it ends this week, I urge everyone to go see it!!

We invented the Post It....

So a couple of weeks ago we headed to London for our amazing pal Nick's birthday.
There was a gig happening with all our favourite people in some awesome bands playing and I (Seleena) got asked to DJ.
Last year for my birthday Nick got me the best present EVER, my name tattooed upon his skin in a blue heart. I KNOW RIGHT!
SO I persuaded Kandy to miss a derby bout to come down for the weekend so I could give Nick a gift back, we were to dress up as characters from his favourite film and dance for him...

so we did, we dressed as ROMY AND MICHELE!!!!

We watched the bands in our normal non spandex  clothes, then as Manchester's finest, Joyce D'vision reached the end of her set, we ran to the toilets for a quick change.

The last song of my set was Cyndi Lauper's Time after Time, so we danced around Nick ( we didn't rehearse this, as you can tell!)

We had a great time, the sun was out we went to the park twice, had two ice creams, hung out with a bunch of rad folk and danced until we nearly sweated to death.

We are available to hire if you ever need a 90s film duo for an event, corporate/family/social you name it we'll do it!!

Also if you have to go to some poxy school reunion and think everyone will laugh at you because you're not some heteronorm (they wont because YOU ARE AWEOSME) then tell them you invented Post Its! here's the formula for glue....

Vinyl acetate, the monomer, is CH2=CH-O-COCH3, or
C4H6O2

The polymer is made up of units like this:

-[CH2-C(-O-COCH3)H]-
